THERAPEUTIC CLONING...?

Is it incorrect to say the “"therapeutic cloning” is necessary to provide us with human tissue for transplantation and thus save lives? Some people argue that the government should accept the recommendations of the Donaldson Report to legalise the reproduction of human clones for experimentation. They argue that this is necessary to develop a way of growing tissue for transplant, from stem cells harvested from cloned embryos.

In fact, other research conducted shows the same thing can be achieved by using stem cells from adults, without the need to produce clones. This is harmless to the adults, in contrast to the destructive effect on the embryo of the alternative method. Talk of “the potential for life” is a red herring. The only logical beginning of human life is fertilisation. To deny this is to impose an artificial barrier for political reasons. If this can be done in the case of the unborn, then it can also be done to deny human rights to any other human beings.

The research into adult stem cells makes research into cloned embryos completely unnecessary.
Do governments need to support scientists in producing ‘monsters’ by combining animal tissue with human tissue as suggested? Society needs to speak out against these proposed practices.

PEACE OF MIND!

At last, the situation in Northern Ireland has been turned around so that both residents and tourists can live and travel around with peace of mind! No longer is fear generated by the presence of British soldiers pointing sub-machine guns through your car window at a check-point. People on all sides of the Political arena are working for the good of everyone. Could this not happen in the Pro-life world?

Recently a woman of 40 years of age wanted to speak with me. She and her husband were delighted to learn that after 15 years of marriage, the woman was pregnant. So why was she crying? Well, would not any woman after being told by the doctor that an abortion was the best course of action as the baby would have Down's Syndrome. Of course she stated that she wanted to have the baby. Where was her peace of mind?

And then I met a young Kosovar who told me of the brutal killing of his elderly parents before he managed to escape. He is now in Dublin, a refugee with no peace of mind.

What has happened to the dignity of life? Do we in the Labour Party respect life? Why is some human life of greater value than others?
